Token Roles
Proto Layer uses a three-token system built for flexibility, fairness, and long-term alignment. Each token has a clear role in how value moves through the network.
Note: If you’re buying or trading outside the native chain, $PROTO is the only Proto Layer token available on public exchanges (on Ethereum).
$zPROTO and $ePROTO are internal tokens used for rewards, services, and infrastructure. They aren’t traded—you earn them by contributing to the network.

$PROTO — In-App Utility
$PROTO is the native medium of exchange for many co-chains on Proto Layer. It’s commonly used for:
Buying and selling digital assets inside co-chains
Microtransactions, subscriptions, or in-game rewards
Swapping with other tokens (e.g., AdCoin → $PROTO at checkout)
The Engine Behind Proto Layer
Engine powers everything on Proto Layer. It’s used for:
Paying for compute, storage, and access tasks
Validator rewards and node incentives
Running co-chains and deploying new services
$PROTO is the core utility token, earned exclusively by validators.
Governance & Access
$zPROTO is the ERC-20 token for onboarding, governance, and network access. It’s backed 1:1 by $PROTO on the native chain.
It allows holders to:
Stake for early access to features like LINK
Reserve digital assets such as usernames or services
Access Proto Layer without needing to earn on-chain rewards directly
$PROTO has a fixed supply and acts as a bridge into Proto Layer for users, developers, and investors who want to participate without running hardware or validating tasks.
